NovaCore Institute

NovaCore Institute

A unit for applied research, independent evaluation and knowledge transfer in energy transition and sustainability.

An independent technical voice in a market in transition.

Role of the Institute

The Foundation’s technical brain

The NovaCore Institute drives applied research, independent evaluation and knowledge transfer in energy transition and sustainability. It works as a laboratory where technologies and models are tested, analysed and benchmarked, generating technical criteria and reference frameworks for companies, public bodies, associations and society at large.

  • Technical brain: where it’s thought, tested and learned
  • Independent laboratory for analysis and trials
  • A centre of criteria that prepares technologies for certification
  • A holistic vision: technical, legal and economic combined

What we do

Five lines of activity

01

Trial and demonstration design

Demonstration projects in energy transition, decarbonisation, circular economy, demand flexibility and biodiversity.

02

Technology evaluation

Maturity, impact and alignment analysis with frameworks like SDGs and the EU green taxonomy.

03

Technical guides and notes

Development and publication of methodologies, criteria and best practices.

04

Project support

Helping companies, institutions, associations and cities prepare solid, financeable projects.

05

Learning spaces

Conferences, seminars, training programmes and publications for the whole ecosystem.

A vector toward certification

We accompany technologies along the certifiable path

We promote that technologies and solutions reach certification. We act as a bridge between companies, institutions and certifying bodies: we find the path, support the developments so they become more solid, safer and more sustainable, and prepare projects to align with official standards on firm technical ground.

How we work

A methodology of trial, learning and progress

  1. 01

    We observe

We understand the technology and context: actors, regulatory frameworks and deployment conditions.

  2. 02

    We design

We structure trials and pilots with clear hypotheses, indicators and technical partners.

  3. 03

    We measure

We collect data, analyse results and benchmark them against international frameworks.

  4. 04

    We publish

We share criteria and recommendations so the ecosystem advances on solid ground.

Who we work for

Four main audiences

Companies and ESG leads

Sustainability and innovation teams that need technical criteria and solid projects.

Public administrations and institutions

Public bodies and agencies that design transition policies and programmes.

Universities and research centres

Scientific teams looking for applied collaboration and knowledge transfer.

Associations and certifiers

Allies who receive the Institute’s criteria and analyses as technical raw material for their regulatory and certification work.

Geographic focus

A bridge between the north that defines and the south that deploys

We work with stakeholders across Europe and Latin America, with a special focus on the energy challenges of southern Europe and Spanish-speaking countries. We act as a bridge between the standards and frameworks defined in northern Europe and other regions of the global north, and the realities of the territories where they must be deployed.

Governance and team

Transparency as a trust factor

The Institute is governed by its board of trustees and the bodies provided for under the Spanish Foundation Law. We are building the team and advisory council in line with our technical priorities.

Board of trustees

The highest governing body. Defines strategy, approves annual plans and ensures compliance with the foundation’s purposes.

Advisory council

Technical profiles in energy transition, green finance, data and sustainability. Brings external judgement to the board’s decisions.

Technical team

Coordinates project design and execution, partner relationships and impact measurement.

Compliance

Bylaws, basic policies (ethics, conflicts of interest) and economic reporting published on the website.

Key documents

Institutional information

Bylaws

Foundational document setting out purposes, bodies and regime of the entity.

Activity report

Annual summary of activities, projects, impact and economic information.

Basic policies

Ethics, conflicts of interest and other internal frameworks.
