CHARGE CONNECT

Open mobility needs systems that understand one another.

Open electric mobility needs the whole ecosystem to understand one another CHARGE CONNECT helps vehicles, charging, platforms and data work together openly and reliably. Better interoperability can make charging simpler, build user confidence and make room for more participants.

Programme profile

Open Electromobility Interoperability Programme

Programme code EV-INT

Why it matters

A good vehicle and charger are not enough if they cannot communicate.

The charging experience depends on different systems connecting and exchanging information. When that connection fails, users and the wider ecosystem bear the consequences.

What the programme does

A neutral space to understand and test those connections.

The programme brings together vehicles, charge points, platforms, operators and data to research, test and learn at system boundaries, without replacing official standards or certification.

What your participation can make possible

Your technology can help open up electric mobility.

Manufacturers, operators, platforms, labs, universities, cities and technology companies can contribute systems, data, authorised sessions, infrastructure or expertise.

  • Vehicles and EVSE
  • OCPP and OCPI
  • Platforms and roaming
  • Data and navigation
  • Labs
  • Cloud and cybersecurity
  • Training and pilots

The shared value that remains

More interoperable and accessible infrastructure.

The lasting value is shared learning, stronger conditions for competition and less dependence on closed ecosystems. A connected transition can welcome more actors and choices.

Relevant frameworks

  • SDG 9
  • SDG 11
  • SDG 13
  • SDG 17
  • Sustainable mobility
  • Open standards
  • Technology neutrality

Alignment with each framework is assessed against the scope and evidence of each project.

Explore the technical approach

How we do it

Three technical layers with a shared evidence system.

EVBRIDGE observes vehicle–EVSE sessions; VOLT provides an OCPP readiness environment for repeatable scenarios; Open Charge Data & Navigation Bridge validates OCPI and AFIR data flows. Findings inform shared methods and learning.

Vehicle ↔ EVSE → EVBRIDGE · EVSE ↔ CSMS → VOLT · CPO/eMSP ↔ data → Open Charge Data Bridge → evidence and transfer
Three charging interoperability layers and a shared evidence system.

Neutral governance: readiness, not certification.

Sponsors and partners do not control test methods, findings or conclusions. Reports are diagnostic and educational; OCPP, ISO 15118 and other certifications remain with authorised bodies. Testing is authorised and controlled, with personal data and secrets minimised.

Partnerships that can activate it

  • Founding Interoperability Partner
  • Vehicle & EVSE Partner
  • Protocol & Platform Partner
  • Data & Navigation Partner
  • Research & Lab Partner
  • Technology Infrastructure Partner
  • Country Ecosystem Partner

Independence: Participation does not control methods or results; categories and brand use depend on the agreement and authorisation.

Find your way to contribute

You do not have to solve everything. One contribution can make the next step possible.
